Port Sorell to Hobart (E)

Fabi our tourguide didn't want to drive the fastest way to Hobart. He wanted to show us some of Tasmanias most beautiful spots along the way. That's why we drove along the East Coast of Tasmania...

The first stop on our way to Hobart was in Launceston gorge were we had coffee. After that we drove by one of the famous ski resorts, Ben Lomond, and further to the Freycinet National Park. The park was very touristic and Fabi couldn't belief how it had changed since he was there in 2004. A big new carpark with many cars told us immediately that we were not the only ones visiting. The trail to the viewing platform isn't yet finishd but if it is it'll be most certainly wheelchair accessible which means even more tourists.

On the viewing platform was almost no space left for us. Not only humans but a almost tame wallaby enjoyed the great view over the famous wineglas bay.

In contrast, the winegals bay itself was nearly deserted. Most certainly because it was another 15 minutes hike down and up the hill again... The water was pretty cold and that definitely explains why the boys stayed only a short time in it.

Early the next morning we left the wineglas bay and went to the ferry and arrived, after a bumpy ride, on Maria Island. We weren't the only ones there eighter but it was less crowded than wineglas bay. After putting up our tents we hiked to the peaks of Bishop and Clerk, a mountain with stunning views over the island and the sea. In a loop back to the campground we went past the fossil cliffs (millions of fossilised shells) and our first kangaroos which were introduced from the mainland in the past.

Later that day, before the sun set, which was mainly behind the clouds, we set out again for the painted cliffs. The cliffs were absolutely stunning and the setting sun gave them a special touch. Maybe they would have been even more impressive with a brilliant sun setting but it was magnificent anyway and some of the best things we've seen. On our way back to the tents we encountered wildlife in abandunce: wombats, possums, wallabies, kangaroos. The black outlining of gumtrees to a nicly  coloured sky was just a perfect adding.
